🚇 Seoul subway basics
The subway is the easiest way around Seoul. One transit card works on every line and on city buses.
Step by step
- Tap in, tap outTap your card at the gate going in and coming out. The adult card fare is ₩1,550 for the first 10 km, plus ₩100 per extra 5 km.
- Free transfersChange lines or switch to a bus within 30 minutes (60 minutes from 21:00 to 07:00) and it counts as one trip. On buses, tap when you get off too.
- No card? Single-journey ticketBuy one at station kiosks (multilingual). It costs ₩100 more than the card fare plus a ₩500 deposit, returned at the deposit machine when you arrive.
- Use exit numbersBig stations have many numbered exits. Our spot pages and map apps tell you which exit to take.
- Check the last trainLast trains vary by line and station (for example, Line 9's last weekday train from Gaehwa leaves at 00:43). Late-night 'N' buses run from midnight, with last departures around 4 AM.
